Student based consulting at the University of Alberta is drastically underdeveloped. When looking at schools such as Queens, SFU, and University of Dublin, this model of student based consulting has worked extremely well. At the UofA, aside from CSL projects and the School of Retailing (which only employs ASOB students and focuses on the retail niche), there are NO student based consulting firms on campus. This summer, I would like to help change that and establish a new equilibrium at the University of Alberta. I am helping launch an interdisciplinary, paid student consulting group known as the “Alberta Student Consulting Group”. This group will work with small and medium sized enterprises at a small fee, and will operate as a NFP. Excess funds will be re-invested into student based initiatives at startups. I will be spending the summer building the business plan, working on our marketing collateral, finalizing our board of directors and conducting research on similar endeavours.
